Photographing Children

1. Children are usually oblivious to cameras. While they're in a world of make believe is a prime time to capture them. Be present and follow them around.

2. You can get some great facial expressions when you just sit and talk with them. Kids love being asked to make happy, sad, angry, surprised, and crazy faces.

3. Take pictures of their dirty feet after running around in the backyard, their favorite pair of shoes, their curls, their favorite toys. Try different angles. Lay down on the floor, take pictures from above, snap a few shots from around the corner.

4. Some photo shoots go like this and you have to be okay with that.

5. Sometimes the only way to grab a picture is to make it seem like you're not trying to take a picture.

"Grab that leaf and peak through the holes at me!"

"How old are you again? Can you show me on your fingers?"

"So, um...why do you have a crayon up your nose?"

6. Be creative and try new things. (Or steal ideas off Pinterest. That works.) I did this 2 years ago and my niece liked answering the questions.

7. When it comes to actual posed photo shoots, those can be tricky. Change up the poses and keep the shoot moving quickly.
